What is supported living?
Supported living for vulnerable adults is a type of housing and care arrangement designed to provide safe and appropriate accommodations and support services for adults who are considered vulnerable due to various factors, such as physical or cognitive disabilities, mental health issues, developmental disabilities, or a history of homelessness or abuse. The primary goal of supported living for vulnerable adults is to help individuals live as independently as possible while ensuring their safety and well-being. Here are key aspects of supported living for vulnerable adults:
Safe and Appropriate Housing
Supported living programs offer housing options tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable adults. This can include individual apartments, shared housing, or group homes, often located within the community.
Individualised Support
Services are highly individualized and are based on the unique needs and goals of each resident. Support may include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation.
Personal Care
Staff or caregivers are trained to provide personal care services, including medication management, hygiene support, and mobility assistance, as needed.
Healthcare Coordination
Supported living programs often assist residents in accessing and coordinating medical care, therapy, and other healthcare services. This includes ensuring individuals receive necessary screenings and treatments.
Community Integration
Encouraging socialisation and community participation is a key component. Programs help residents engage in activities and events in their local communities, fostering a sense of belonging.
Life Skills Training
Depending on the residents’ abilities and goals, support may include teaching essential life skills, such as budgeting, cooking, shopping, and transportation.
Emotional and Behavioural Support
For individuals with behavioural health or emotional challenges, staff may provide counselling, therapy, or behaviour management strategies.
Crisis Intervention
Programs are prepared to respond to crises or emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
Advocacy
Support workers often act as advocates for vulnerable adults, helping them navigate legal, financial, and healthcare systems, and ensuring their rights are upheld.
Family and Guardian Involvement
Depending on the individual’s wishes and legal considerations, family members or guardians may be involved in the care and decision-making process.
Housing Stability
Ensuring housing stability is a key priority. Support staff help residents maintain their housing and address any issues that may arise.
Independence and Empowerment
Supported living programs aim to empower residents to make choices and decisions about their lives and care to the extent possible, promoting their autonomy and self-determination.
Regular Monitoring and Evaluation
Ongoing assessment and monitoring of residents’ needs, and progress are essential to ensure that the level of support remains appropriate.

What do we offer?
Mentoring and coaching are both valuable approaches for personal and professional development, but they differ in their focus, structure, and goals. Here’s an overview of each:
Mentoring
Nature: Coaching is typically a more formal and structured process. A coach, who may or may not have experience in the same field as the coachee, works with an individual or team to help them achieve specific, short-term goals.
Purpose: The primary purpose of coaching is skill development, performance improvement, and achieving specific objectives. Coaches use a range of techniques to help individuals identify their strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies for improvement.
Scope: Coaching is often focused on specific areas, such as leadership skills, communication, time management, or achieving sales targets.
Duration: Coaching relationships are usually time-limited and goal-oriented. They may last for a few sessions, a few months, or until a specific project is completed.
Formal: Coaching is typically initiated as part of a structured program or by a manager or organisation to address specific performance or skill development needs.
Coaching
Nature: Mentoring is a more informal and long-term relationship between a mentor and a mentee. It often involves a senior or more experienced individual providing guidance and support to a less experienced person.
Purpose: The primary purpose of mentoring is to share wisdom, experiences, and knowledge with the mentee. Mentors offer insights, advice, and guidance to help the mentee develop skills, achieve career goals, and navigate challenges.
Scope: Mentoring tends to be broader in scope, encompassing personal and professional growth. It can cover a wide range of topics, including career development, leadership skills, work-life balance, and more.
Duration: Mentoring relationships can be long-lasting, continuing for months or even years.
Informal: Mentoring often occurs organically, with the mentor and mentee forming a natural connection. It may or may not involve a structured program
In summary, mentoring is a more informal, long-term relationship focused on personal and professional growth, while coaching is a formal, short-term relationship aimed at skill development and goal achievement. Both approaches have their place in personal and professional development and can be highly beneficial depending on the individual’s needs and goals. Some people may even benefit from a combination of mentoring and coaching at different stages of their development.
